...it's almost that time of year again!

long-view

It's almost that time of year again, the daffodils are in full bloom and beginning to dry up. Soon, you'll be able to buy a fragrant bouquet of pink peonies at Trader Joe's to brighten up a dull apartment. Sweaters are being thrown in drawers, socks are going into hiding and all toes MUST be polished. Yup, it's almost that time of year again...

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll remember last year's sundress week project, my first real attempt at outfit posts. It was so much fun that I decided to bring it back this year! I have to wait a few weeks, simply because London has not caught up with the US temperature wise  and most of my spring clothes are back in Baltimore.

Basically, the premise of sundress week is that I'll be wearing a different sundress for, you guessed it, an entire week. I'd love for you all to participate- last year even my dog joined in on the fun. I'll keep you posted on the details, but basically, I'll be asking for photo submissions from you! Last year, I had submissions from Darkroom Daisies, My Red Trench, My Schnitzel Sandwich and That Short Chick!

Who's in?

A few dresses I found and saved. I'm pretty sure they're ALL out of my price range, but they're great for inspiration!

You know how I know it's officially spring- because I have the pleasure of smelling the tantalizing scent of cigarette smoke creeping through my opened window. Yup, that's right. The smoking girls are sitting on my front stoop, ignoring the fact that people might want to leave their windows open to enjoy the nice weather. Bah Humbug.

Fortunately, I bought a new perfume today and can sniff my wrists when the overwhelming cigarette smell becomes too much. This is a technique Becca and I perfected while on a 6-week cross country trip. At the time, we used whatever good smelling things we could find to block out the smell of farts, car exhaust and garlic. I specifically remember sticking a tube of toothpaste practically up my nose to avoid the inevitable stench of a crowded bus. Eww.

Also, I have a confession to make: I did not wear a sundress today. But Alana, it's Sundress week! How could you do this to us? I know, I know. The thing is, the weather report informed me that it was supposed to rain today, and I just couldn't bring myself to wear a dress. So, I opted for a cute summery top and jeans instead.

Sundress Week: Day 4- Pink Thursday Recap

Wow...yesterday was possibly the most fabulous day ever. Get ready, here's a list post:

1) My buddy Emily sent me a sundress picture via her Blackberry. I love technology, and I love that Em decided to participate in Sundress Week! Not only is her dress cute, it's also pink for Pink Thursday!

2) Yesterday marked my last class as a junior. Woohoo! I presented my final design project and I think it went pretty well. Basically, the assignment was to design 4 parts of a CD package: the front cover, the inside cover, the actual CD and the back cover.  Although most people worked with existing CDs, I decided to design my a cappella group's upcoming CD. Actually, we're recording today, which should be pretty fun. Sorry kiddos, I'm going to have to show you the actual design in a different post.

3) We got out of class 2 hours early, which gave me just enough time to get my new favorite spring Starbucks drink (grande shaken green tea, sweetened) and do some internship work.

4) It was Pink Thursday and so many of my friends and readers informed me that they wore pink. That made me so happy.

5) Cambridgeside Galleria hosted a really awesome FREE event called "Passport to Style." My friend Lana drove a bunch of us girls over to the mall where we stood in an absurdly long line to register. We were given wristbands and a welcome bag, as well as a piece of cardboard with an attached key. We were then directed to try to fit our key into the locks of two large trunks. If your key opened either of the trunks, you'd win whatever was inside.

Guess what? I won! Now, don't get too excited, I didn't win a new convertible or anything, but I did get movie passes to the new Matthew McConaughey movie. Plus, a photographer took my picture.

6) We got AWESOME swag bags at the event. They're huge and pink and perfect for a day at the beach. Plus, they were filled with tons of free stuff!

7) There were tables and vendors throughout the mall giving out free stuff and coupons. Riki and I even got a free wash and blow dry and a mini-makeover. Also, the guy who did my hair was probably the most awesome stylist I've ever met- he used to play baseball in the minor league! I made sure to give him a hug before I left.

8) One of the girls in my a cappella group brought an entire pizza from T-Anthony's to practice. It was left over from an event she'd attended and was absolutely delicious.

Of course I'll show you pictures from the event...as soon as Rachel L emails me them. Have a great Friday!

Sundress Week: Day 4- Pink Thursday

Momandsab

So I know she's not wearing a sundress, but cut her some slack. No, this is not my big sister, this is my mom. She's really adorable and I miss her a lot. Plus, the Sabster looks great too in his bandanna.

Sundress Week: Day 3- Double Trouble

Wow, I have so many great Sundress Week pictures to post from yesterday!

Alanaflowers

I really love this dress. It's from Target and has pockets. Plus, how pretty are these flowers? I got them with my nine year old at Trader Joe's. I believe that you don't need a boyfriend to get a nice bouquet of flowers. And, because it's the last day of class, I decided to reward myself with something bright and colorful.

Sundress Week: Day 3- Goodies from Home

Some sundress pics from back home. Thanks Donna!

Lauren and Gabby sundress

Here's my little sister Lauren and my cousin Gabby. They put these matching dresses on for Passover. Aren't they pretty?

Sundresssquirrel

My stepmom knows how I feel about squirrels, so she always makes a point of buying me squirrel related things (like my pink pj pants and a book with a squirrel on the cover) and sending me squirrel emails. Yeah, so instead of taking a picture of herself for sundress week, she sent me this.

Sundress Week: Day 2- Creative Clips and Lots of Friends

Hi all! I know this is a little late, but here are some photos from yesterday!

Hairclipsundress

As you all know, I'm very, very petite. Actually, Burlington Coat Factory has a name for people my size (no, it's not midget): demi-petite. Ok, so I'm demi-petite, and more often than not, I have trouble with poorly fitting dress straps. While I typically buy things with adjustable straps, I often have to use safety pins to keep from showing off too much cleavage.  Although safety pins are effective, they're not particularly pretty.

But yesterday, I had a brilliant idea: Why not use a fun hair clip to keep my dress on? This particular clip is etched with tiny flowers and I think it looks really cute with this purple and pink dress from Loehmann's aka my happy place.

Rikandrach

Look how cute! Rach and Riki ran into each other at Hillel and decided to take a photo for you! I love the bright pink of Rachel L's sundress. You can't see, but she's wearing two really pretty bangles- one in teal and one in yellow. I also love Riki's dress. Hmm...look's eerily similar to something I own. Oh wait...

Sundressgroup

I realize we're not all actually wearing sundresses, but look how well we match! How fun is Marla's tie-dye t? I just love it!

ThatShortChick

Finally, check out That Short Chick, another demi-petite girl. She looks awsesome! I'm so glad she emailed me this photo.

Sundress Week: Day 2- Little Sister Edition

As promised, here's a  Sundress Week photo from one of my faithful readers:

Sophsundress

How pretty is my little sister Sophie? She just had her 18th birthday and is graduating from high school in a little over a month. Also, she'll be in Spain for a good part of May completing an internship and staying with friends. (If only my senior internship had been that fab-tastic! I inputted data into a computer and ate lunch alone for 6 weeks.)  Hopefully she'll send me stories and photos to share with you!

And who is that pretty dog in  pink? Actually, Sababa prefers you use the adjective "handsome" because he is a boy. My sister and I love dressing him up in ribbons, scarves and bandannas, much to the chagrin of my stepdad, who confiscates Sabi's accessories as soon as he sees him.

"He's a boy!" He constantly argues.

So what. Real men wear pink. (Hi Chris!)

Get excited for more pictures of the HANDSOME Mr. Sababa...and my lovely Mom on Thursday.

Don't forget to send me your sundress photos! Send Email

Sundress Week: Day 1- The Little Teal Number

Hello boys and girls and happy Sundress Week! I hope you're all enjoying the nice weather...although a few of you have told me that it's not actually so warm where you live. Of course, I'm sad that you can't all enjoy the lovely Boston weather for yourselves, but hopefully these photos will cheer you up.

I did a mini photo shoot today during babysitting. My nine year old and I found a nice spot near the playground and took turns snapping photos of each other. We brought the dog. He's not really that into being photographed...he moves a lot.

My wonderful roommate is responsible for choosing today's "sundress," which is a little number I picked up last year at Target. I use quotation marks because it's actually a beach cover-up. I'm a believer that cover-ups, as well as pajamas and sometimes even lingerie (unless highly see-through and scandalous), can be worn as regular clothing.

Sundress Week

Sundress Week officially begins tomorrow! Want to participate? Wear your favorite springy dresses with me all week. I'll be photo-blogging mine, and you can feel free to send photos of yours! I'm trying to get my dad to dress up my (male) cat. We'll see how that goes...
