SoleMates, vol. 20: Kristen from "Boston Fashionista"

image from farm6.static.flickr.com image from farm3.static.flickr.com image from farm3.static.flickr.com I live a good life filled with good people. Mr. BF knows me so well, he knows always to be surprised. My friends and I share one, big, collective brain. I think my family and I have a sixth sense about one another. So who do I honor today with my Sole Mate post?  Truman the Cat.

When Mr. BF and I first met and began planning our lives together, a cat always factored into the discussion. When we finally moved into our first apartment together we had no furniture (it was to arrive a week later during the fifth largest snowstorm in Boston's history), no food in the fridge, honestly, I doubt we even had toilet paper. What to do first? Go to the Animal Rescue League! We looked at a lot of cats that day, sweet cats, adorable cats, snugly cats. But then we saw one in a cage all by himself, separate from the other cats. A volunteer told us he had been adopted, but was promptly returned for being "too playful". Needless to say, we immediately fell in love.

That night, as we lay on the blankets and pillows we put down on the floor, both mentally preparing for job interviews the next day, a furry figure entered the room and hesitantly meowed. After a little encouragement, he was laying between the two of us, purring like a chainsaw and digging his spotted feet.

Trusty Truman has been a friend to both of us for the past 6 years, playing with us, comforting us, even occasionally grooming us when he feels our hair is not up to his standards. I always smile at the sound of his little padded feet on the floor; although he is a feline, he is most definitely my friend.

About Kristen:

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I moved to Boston in January 2005. I have always been interested in fashion, though I was never able to experiment much when I was younger (school uniforms encourage... uniformity). I think my style is still developing, and I love trying new things. I look to blogs as an avenue for style creativity, exploration and, most importantly, fun!

By day (and, honestly, night), I am the director of a science research department at a local university. I am married, have two cats, and I firmly believe the most chic thing you can possess is good manners.  Visit me at http://thebostonfashionista.com/

SoleMates, vol. 19: Melissa from "Crunches for Cupcakes"

image from farm4.static.flickr.comMy boyfriend Jared is my "sole mate."  We've been dating for almost 3 years and during that time, lacing up our sneakers and going for a run has made us closer than ever.  I helped Jared run in his very first road race not long into our relationship.  Months passed and side by side, we pushed each other to complete our first Half Marathon.  Countless races later, Jared and I still run together, high fiving at each mile marker we pass and enjoying the time exercising together.  Jared is my best friend and through running with him, I've realized that he is my heart and "sole."

About Melissa:

My blog is my life story, with some useful information thrown in.  I try to do lots of little things each day to lead me to a healthier and happier life.

Make sure to check out her blog, Crunches for Cupcakes.

SoleMates, vol. 15: Kileen from "Cute and Little"

image from farm4.static.flickr.comThe above photo personifies the relationship I share with my (new!) husband as I'm always in glammed out stilettos and he's just in normal sneakers (or "kicks", as he calls it).  It also kinda pokes fun at my petite stature too as he's a good 6" taller than me.  :)

About Kileen:

I grew up in Austin, TX where I learned to love live music, good bbq, and hot sunny weather.  College wasn't far away in Houston, TX at Rice University where I then earned degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.  I now work at a hedge fund in Dallas, TX as a software developer.

While my day job will definitely convince you that I'm a nerd through and through, I can't shy away from my Asian roots!  This means loving shopping, dressing up, and being an all-over label whore.  :)

Make sure to check out her blog, Cute and Little.

A special congratulations to Kileen on her recent wedding. She's in Africa right now on her honeymoon- how cool is that?

SoleMates, vol. 14: Amy from "Stylish Year"

image from farm3.static.flickr.com It’s 8am on a Saturday and we’re lying in bed, a quick check of the iPhones tells us the news we’ve been waiting all week for. Today is going 83 degrees and sunny without a cloud in the sky. This is when we know we are going to spend the day riding OUR motorcycle. I say “our” because there is nothing like the feeling of riding on a winding New England road with the person I love sitting close to me. For hours we ride under tunnels of tree cover, by lakes with cool breezes, and over bridges with views that a camera could never capture. We do all this without speaking a word to each other, both completely in tune, with the road, the motorcycle, the sights, the smells, and the sounds that being in a car just can’t offer. We hope that this sunny Saturday, the sun never sets and we can ride forever.

About Amy:

My name is Amy and one of my favorite times of the day is just before I fall asleep… I lie in bed and think about what I am going to wear the next day. I almost never wear the same outfit twice and I love to shop my closet over and over!!

Make sure to check out her blog, Stylish Year.

SoleMates, vol. 13: Janet from "This Confetti Life"

image from farm6.static.flickr.com My "sole mate" and I are both cyclists. We may have our differences -- he bikes in click-in road shoes and I bike in heels, he rides a speedy tri-bike, I ride a cute commuter -- but we agree that pedal power is preferable to paying at the pump. And the views from behind the handlebars are better, too.

About Janet:

I am a bicycle rider, dress wearer, wine drinker, lifetime learner, and hostess with the mostess. I’m also an attorney, but hope you won’t judge me for it. Having recently relocated to San Luis Obispo, California, I’m enjoying the SLO life with my husband of seven years. I love art museum gift shops, rings made from antique spoons, violet-flavored things, reading Vanity Fair, and meeting political celebrities.

I’d love to have you over for a vodka basil gimlet.

Make sure to check out her blog, This Confetti Life.

A little side note, Janet's old blog, Slice of Pink, was one of the first blogs I ever read. She's been one of my biggest inspirations as a blogger.

SoleMates, vol. 12: Michele from "Michele's Musings"

image from farm4.static.flickr.comI adopted Maxwell P. Von Sugarbear (but he goes by Max for short) seven years ago from a no-kill shelter in Dallas, Texas. Truth be told, I actually went to adopt his sister, but when I arrived, Max was the only kitten left. I really wanted to adopt a female kitten, so I have to be honest that it wasn't love at first sight, but about five minutes into it, I was smitten with this spunky little fur ball who's tail looked like it had been stuck in an electrical outlet. When he was a little older, I realized he was as into shoes as me. See, there's nothing more that Max likes than rubbing his face and "loving" against my shoes. High heels, flip flops... with Max, anything goes! It's that discovery that helped me realize that Max and I are sole mates, and that fate brought us together, so it was only fitting that Max get a chance to showcase his love of shoes as well. I think the pictures speak for themselves on how much Max and I are sole mates.

About Michele:

A Texan living life on the East Coast. I'm a public relations manager by day, a Cupcakeista by night. I believe shoes can make the outfit, but love trying to prove myself wrong with a really rad outfit. I'm trying to bring back the word rad. I'm also huge into baking, and love making gourmet cupcakes. To keep my cupcake-induced muffin top at bay, you can usually find me out running my neighborhood streets before sunrise (I'm also a real life Frogger/car dodger). I live with my awesome boyfriend, and our two cats, Maxwell and Maggie.

Make sure to check out her blog, Michele's Musings.
