Stylish Summer Jellies

Rainbow-of-jellies
Oh jellies, though we typically associate you with childhood memories of summers past, you're back, cuter than ever and no longer just for the kids. I scoured the web and found a variety of styles, colors, prices and even heel heights. There are so many options, now to just pick a favorite...which style do you love best?

Step it Up: MIA Tulua

image from farm8.staticflickr.comA few things you should (and probably already) know about me:

1) I love shoes.

2) I love shoes that help me break 5'2" (meaning they have to be AT LEAST 2.5").

3) I believe that shoes can make or break an outfit.

I'm wearing: Sweater- Loft (swapped) | Top- TKMaxx | Jeans- BR (similar) | Shoes- c/o MIA (here) | Bag- Target (old) | Shades- gift.

These MIA Tulua sandals are super tall and help take a pretty plain/monochromatic outfit to the next level. I believe that they stand out on their own, which is why I tried to keep the rest of the outfit relatively simple.

image from farm8.staticflickr.comThe sneaker-like soles and thick heels help illeviate face planting (although knowing me, anything is possible!) and the amazing ankle straps add a bit of detailing that's both fun and very on trend for spring.

image from farm8.staticflickr.comThanks MIA for sending me these gorgeous shoes and helping me step it up! Look for more posts in my #stepitup series soon!

PS- thanks Maggie for being an amazing puppy model!

Mia Noami Booties in Brown

image from farm7.static.flickr.comI love my new Mia Noami booties (got them on ideeli) because not only are they very on trend, they also add great height (which I need), have a serious sole to avoid slippage and have tassel accents. It's funny, until I started writing this blog post, I could have sworn that these boots were made of real leather, but apparently they're synthetic. I'm usually pretty picky about boots and tend to go for the real stuff due to quality, but these are awesome.

image from farm7.static.flickr.comThey go great with jeans, tucked or un-tucked, and I imagine they'll look pretty cool with a short dress and thick tights. I may even pair them with some scrunched socks- a trend I have yet to try.

image from farm7.static.flickr.com image from farm7.static.flickr.comTo be honest, I don't think I've ever had so many people stop and stare at my shoes. I'm hoping they were doing it because they liked them, not because they were all thinking to themselves "how is that girl not falling?".

image from farm7.static.flickr.comWant to snag your own pair? I highly recommend it. Though the price is higher than what I paid, you can find them here.

Outfit Details: Jacket- Loft; Jeans- shop in Canada; Booties- Mia via ideeli; Bag- Kate Spade via sample sale; Earrings- gift from Aunt S & Uncle P.

Photo Diary: Nude Pumps, a Series

image from farm7.static.flickr.com image from farm7.static.flickr.com image from farm7.static.flickr.com image from farm7.static.flickr.com image from farm7.static.flickr.comI honestly love the lighting in Eric's room. I love the greys and blues of his decor, the hints of color and the sunshine that streams in through his windows. It's one of the only indoor places I actually like taking photos.

I got these pumps at a swap and absolutely love them. Because they're patent, the inner sides are a little scuffed, but that's fine with me.

Also, the term "toe cleavage" makes me giggle!

Wanted: Jeffrey Campbell Harlow Wedge

Jeffrey campbellSo cute and fun! Check them out at Pink & Harmony, a fun boutique I just discovered via Twitter. Isn't that where I find all my favorite new stores? Happy shoe shopping!

Good Shoes Come to Those Who Wait

image from farm4.static.flickr.comLet me first say, I am not a Talbots girl, or at least, I didn't think I was until I saw these babies in the window a few months ago. After spotting them in real life, I had to look them up online- no way was I stepping into that store full of old ladies! Unfortunately, the price tag was pretty hefty, at $159. Though I wanted another pair of nude pumps (the ones I have are fake patent and scuff easily), I wasn't ready to take the plunge...until today.

Forced into Talbots by the random 15 minute rainstorm and the fact that I saw a 40%-65% off sign in the window, I made my way into the store. I knew they had a petite section, so I figured I could check that out as well. (FYI, they don't carry anything smaller than 2P in stores, but they do apparently carry 0P online.)

Low and behold, I found my beautiful peep toe pumps, marked down to around $79! I smelled the leather, tried them on and walked over to the mirror. They were just as beautiful in person, and ended up being an extra 25% off, making the grand total around $60. Though it's a bit out of my typical shoe price range, I decided to do it and I'm so glad I did!

A good pair of nude pumps is definitely a wardrobe essential, so be on the lookout for these babies in future outfit posts!

SoleMates, vol. 20: Kristen from "Boston Fashionista"

image from farm6.static.flickr.com image from farm3.static.flickr.com image from farm3.static.flickr.com I live a good life filled with good people. Mr. BF knows me so well, he knows always to be surprised. My friends and I share one, big, collective brain. I think my family and I have a sixth sense about one another. So who do I honor today with my Sole Mate post?  Truman the Cat.

When Mr. BF and I first met and began planning our lives together, a cat always factored into the discussion. When we finally moved into our first apartment together we had no furniture (it was to arrive a week later during the fifth largest snowstorm in Boston's history), no food in the fridge, honestly, I doubt we even had toilet paper. What to do first? Go to the Animal Rescue League! We looked at a lot of cats that day, sweet cats, adorable cats, snugly cats. But then we saw one in a cage all by himself, separate from the other cats. A volunteer told us he had been adopted, but was promptly returned for being "too playful". Needless to say, we immediately fell in love.

That night, as we lay on the blankets and pillows we put down on the floor, both mentally preparing for job interviews the next day, a furry figure entered the room and hesitantly meowed. After a little encouragement, he was laying between the two of us, purring like a chainsaw and digging his spotted feet.

Trusty Truman has been a friend to both of us for the past 6 years, playing with us, comforting us, even occasionally grooming us when he feels our hair is not up to his standards. I always smile at the sound of his little padded feet on the floor; although he is a feline, he is most definitely my friend.

About Kristen:

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I moved to Boston in January 2005. I have always been interested in fashion, though I was never able to experiment much when I was younger (school uniforms encourage... uniformity). I think my style is still developing, and I love trying new things. I look to blogs as an avenue for style creativity, exploration and, most importantly, fun!

By day (and, honestly, night), I am the director of a science research department at a local university. I am married, have two cats, and I firmly believe the most chic thing you can possess is good manners.  Visit me at http://thebostonfashionista.com/

SoleMates, vol. 19: Melissa from "Crunches for Cupcakes"

image from farm4.static.flickr.comMy boyfriend Jared is my "sole mate."  We've been dating for almost 3 years and during that time, lacing up our sneakers and going for a run has made us closer than ever.  I helped Jared run in his very first road race not long into our relationship.  Months passed and side by side, we pushed each other to complete our first Half Marathon.  Countless races later, Jared and I still run together, high fiving at each mile marker we pass and enjoying the time exercising together.  Jared is my best friend and through running with him, I've realized that he is my heart and "sole."

About Melissa:

My blog is my life story, with some useful information thrown in.  I try to do lots of little things each day to lead me to a healthier and happier life.

Make sure to check out her blog, Crunches for Cupcakes.
