Collection Crush: Joe Fresh @ JCP

Have you heard of the brand Joe Fresh? I've seen it mentioned a billion times...on Canadian blogs. Well, it's finally available across the US at JCP and I couldn't be more excited. The pieces are cute and fresh while the prices are affordable- the most expensive thing I saw was a silk dress for $69

I think we often overlook jcpenney as far as department stores go, but I've really liked the direction they've gone in since their recent re-brand. How about you?

Sunday Confessional: My Dog Ate my Hamantashen

A few days ago, I received the following email from my dog, Sadie in Baltimore:

Dear Sister Alana,

I have a confession and I hope you'll forgive me.  Today, Mommy was baking all morning and it was … tantalizing.  It was … torture.  It was… tough.  I thought the couple hamantashen I snatched off the cooling rack would satisfy my cravings (that's in addition to the 10 hamantashen I ate last Friday), but alas, it didn't.  She left to take some hamantashen to the guys at BMC and for Myrna's boys, and she realized when she was in the car, that she left a package on the hoosier that she wanted to mail.

So, on her way to KSDS, she stopped home to get the package.  Boy was she mad, more mad than I think was necessary.  You see, I couldn't help myself.  When she left, I took the package, relocated it to the living room carpet (the scene of other similar events), and I opened it.  I removed the brown wrapping paper, took the lid off the box (which was taped shut), and lo and behold, there was an amazing assortment of hamantashen inside.  I had to make them mine!  In my defense, because I can't read (but can obviously type), I didn't know it was addressed to you and Eric.  Had I only known ….  Anyway, I'm sorry… and have a happy Purim!

-Sincerely yours, Sadie

P.S.  Mom will try to make some more for you and send them on Monday or Tuesday.  Unfortunately, the flavor choices are limited at this point (sorry again).

Hope this made you smile! I definitely had mixed feelings when reading it- laughed at the email, but also really, really wanted those hamantashen- they're delicious!

Local Eats: Harvard Sweet Boutique

317I was contacted by Harvard Sweet Boutique a few weeks ago, initially because they wanted to share a recipe for Low-Carb Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies. Of course, if you're a long time reader, you know I'm allergic to nuts of all kinds, so I wasn't about to share a recipe for a food that, as my mom says, "offends me".

Instead, they sent over a bunch of goodies for me to try. My initial reaction? The packaging is so cute! My selection of nut-free goodies, came in a cute green polka dotted box with pink tissue. The package contained an assortment of brownies (salted caramel, mint chocolate fudge, to name a few) and cookies (oatmeal raisin, ginger molasses, etc).

I attempted to snap a few shots, but without opening the individually wrapped baked goods, I couldn't really get across how yummy they looked...so I'm using their shots instead.

Overall, I found the brownies a little too rich for my taste and was disappointed, because they were the desserts I was most excited about. The cookies, on the other hand- they were yummy! The Ginger molasses was definitely my favorite, with the oatmeal raisin coming in at a close second.

About Harvard Sweet Boutique:

"Harvard Sweet Boutique was founded by Harvard, Mass. resident Sue George in 2007 and gained in popularity as an online retailer accepting orders through its catalog and website. This past November, Harvard Sweet Boutique opened its doors for its first brick-and-mortar store located in Hudson, Mass. The storefront acts as a test kitchen, where treats like homemade pop-tarts, fresh granola, whoopee pies and chocolate covered strawberries are offered! The store front is located at 25 South Street, Hudson, MA 01749.

At Harvard Sweet Boutique, we have the perfect gift idea that is unique, whimsical, and magnificent. Our gifts are even more sensational and adorable than roses and teddy bears, and are also mouth-watering delicious. Send our “Sweets for all Occasions” as a wonderful alternative to flowers and traditional candies. Our beautifully packaged gifts are guaranteed to warm the hearts of your friends, loved ones, and business associates.

At Harvard Sweet Boutique, we believe that baking should be done the old-fashioned way – from scratch. Everything is made lovingly by hand, using only the freshest ingredients. When you order gourmet desserts from us, you can rest assured you’re getting the best, most delicious baked sweet available. Our products are all natural, and made with exceptional ingredients, including rich European chocolate with the highest cocoa butter content, pure
double-strength vanilla extracts, the finest flours, premium grade nuts, and fresh Grade A butter."

I'd give these goodies 3 out of 5 stars. If you're looking to send someone a beautifully packaged gift, Harvard Sweet Boutique is a great option, especially if you're looking for  gluten free or low carb treats. Some baked goods do contain nuts, so if you have a severe allergy, they recommend you don't buy their treats.

Kate Spade x Paperless Post: Cute Vday E-cards

Kate spade x paperless postLooking for a last minute Valentine's day card for your significant other, bff, mother, sister or mailman? I absolutely adore this collection of Kate Spade cards on Paperless Post.

Maggie & Nemo: a Love Story

Eric shot some FANTASTIC photos of Maggie in the snow. Let me just say, Maggie is a true snow dog. Up until last week, she had never really experienced a real snow storm. Sure, we've had little bursts of snow since we adopted her last January, but nothing like the 25 inches that were dumped on us during Nemo.

She enjoyed trying to catch the snowballs I threw her way, as well as leaping across the snow and digging holes to look for sticks. What a cutie! Also, I think the Buzzfeed article is totally missing out by not including Maggie...

Nordstrom's Savvy gets a Makeover!

This month, expect to see some changes in the Savvy Department at Nordstrom. They're infusing the department with of-the-moment trends at great prices (pieces start at just $19- now that's a win!) from brands like MinkPink, ASTR, Mural and Viva Vena-Vena Cava’s diffusion line. Nordstrom is also adding its own exclusive line, Leith and Tildon. All pieces will be under $100.

Brands previously available in Savvy will migrate to other sections of the store, so have no fear, they're not disappearing, just moving around a bit.

Here are a few of my favorite items, available online now. You'll see I'm currently loving, lace, feminine details, spring brights and the color navy! Check it:

Sweethearts

Just wanted to share a few photos from a recent guest post DIY I put together over on The Accessory . After not picking up my DSLR for a few weeks, it felt amazing to be shooting real pictures again. I love my iPhone and it gets the job done, but there's something special about setting up a still life, looking for the perfect amount of natural light and adjusting a few settings on the camera.

Enjoy!

Guest Post: 5 Valentines for Him

Hello there, again! It's Amanda from The Accessory - here with a Valentine's Day Gift Guide for your main squeeze. Can't say it enough that I'm absolutely stoked for this little blog swap with Alana. Be sure to check her crafty Valentine's Day DIY - it's a perfect, little treat for your sweetheart
Without much further ado, here are my five picks for the man in your life this Valentine's Day:

Keepin' It Sharp Calibrate Slim Fit Non-Iron Dress Shirt ($59.50)
A nice gingham shirt goes a long way in a man's closet. Paired with a v-neck sweater or worn as is, he will love the sharpness yet playful look of this dress shirt. Personally, I love the navy print. Kudos to Calibrate for making it a non-iron one, too. Less ironing = no fuss handsomeness for the man.

The Life of the Party Mix Master Cocktail Shaker ($24)

He'll thank you for making him the best bartender your friends have ever seen. This quirky cocktail shaker, found at Urban Outfitters, features lists of ingredients and directions to making the most popular drinks. You'll thank us after a long day at work when he whips up your favorite Cosmo!

Squeaky Clean | Philosophy Man Shave + Skin Care Essentials Set ($48)
Limited edition - this shave and skin care set includes a microdelivery exfoliating facial wash, an extra-close shaving gel and "Hope in a Jar" oil-free and SPF 30 moisturizer for fresh, clean and healthy glow. For the man that's practical, give him the gift that he'll find useful. An extra plus: every morning as he gives his fuzz a  buzz, he'll be thinking of that special someone who gifted him this sweet set.

We Heart Nerds | iPad Mini ($329)
For those looking to splurge on their honey bee, an iPad Mini is the way to go. What more to delight him than a tablet - to cart his cool photos, read nifty magazines and play video games/watch movies while he accompanies you on a shopping trip. With a 7.9 inch display, it's perfect little size makes it compact and easy to carry around everywhere. Think of all the Facetime dates you'll have :) Add a special touch with a personal, engraved message for free!

For the Trendsetter | Silk Bow Tie in Stripe ($55)
Give him the gift of class and help him win best-dressed at the next party. Handcrafted in fine silk, this bow tie adds an extra pizzazz to that button up and slacks combo.

And if all else fails..... there is always ticketmaster! Tickets to his favorite concert or comedy show is always a win. It shows you care and listen to when he raves about his latest and favorite find on Spotify.

Well, I hope you all enjoy these picks, and best wishes to you and your sweetie on Vday! Feel free to share, below in comments, what you'll be getting/doing for your loved ones this year.

Ravens!

Photo-(8)Just a quick snapshot my stepmom sent me depicting the current state of our foyer. Apparently we missed a great Super Bowl party back in Baltimore, but we had a pretty great time celebrating in Boston last night.

It's fun to have your home team win, even if you're  not a huge sports fan!
