I could get used to this

Yesterday, I spent a few hours gathering ingredients and making a nice batch of chicken soup while Eric was at work. When he arrived in the kitchen, he smiled and said that he loves coming home to me, and that he could really get used to it.

Well, here's what I came home to today:

image from farm2.static.flickr.com Eric, post haircut, looking at Amazon's new shopping portal on his iPad, just like this. It was adorable.

image from farm2.static.flickr.comI'm dating an amazing, stylish computer geek who likes making me dinner and helping me with computer stuff. He gets excited about going grocery shopping and putting new apps on my computer. He appreciates dark chocolate covered pretzels and a good episode of 30 Rock.

I could get used to this.

Pomtastic!

I love pomegranates. I think my love for this tasty fruit developed during my year in Israel when I first realized that you can don't have to spit out the seeds. In fact, I have yet to eat a pomegranate in the states that even comes close to those purchased at the shuk (market) in Jerusalem!

And speaking of pomegranates...have you had a chance to watch the Pom Wonderful commercials? I've been meaning to post the videos for a while, and was reminded to do so yesterday when I received an email saying "Something Fresh is On the Way from Eric" that had a link to the Pom Website. Apparently I have a pomegranate on the way :)

Check out the most recent commercials. They seem to have taken over the 30 second slots between my favorite TV shows online! I think they're very well done, if not a little provocative. I still can't pick a favorite. Do you think the Pom Wonderful commercials are too sexy for TV? I'm undecided.

Dinner for 3...in photos

When you fall for your best friend

Streetlightlovers I spent Friday evening with two of my favorite men- my talented photographer father and my dapper and very sweet boyfriend, Eric, who came in to visit for the weekend.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner at my favorite Indian restaurant, drank a lot of wine and posed for too many pictures. My dad and Eric talked about photography for what seemed like an eternity, and for once, I was ok with feeling like the 3rd wheel.

SAMPLE1-37 This was the first time Eric had come to visit since our situation evolved from friendship to relationship, and I was amazed and full of joy when Eric said the point of this trip was to spend time with me and my family. In fact, we didn't even go into the city to do typical "Baltimore" things. We spent the weekend going from meal to meal, cooking together (well, Eric cooked, I set the table and did dishes), enjoying Shabbat lunch with my mom and stepdad, and going to some of my favorite restaurants with my dad, stepmom and sister.

And you know what? My family, especially Zooey, loves him. What more could a girl ask for?

Contentment

via weheartit.com

Maybe I've been watching too many Taylor Swift music videos, or maybe it's the fact that I'm safe and cozy inside on a rainy day, but all I know is that I'm content. A little hungry, but very content.

As I sit here alone in Eric's room, waiting for him to get home from work, I know I'm happy. I feel like such a lucky girl- I have the support and love of great family and friends, a boyfriend who just seems to get me and a great, big unknown future ahead of me- a future that is bound to be full of great things.

Sure, I'm always scared about the unknown, but right now, in this exact moment, I'm content.

Editor's note(s):

Yes, I wore a helmet.

No, I did not drive.

Yes, I blew a kiss to a little girl on a duck tour and she blew one back.

No, I did not appreciate the guy in the cab asking for a ride and screaming "I love the yellow!"

Yes, I did make a fool of myself and dance to the rap music blasting out of someone's open car window.

If the pants fit...

image from www.flickr.com A lot of people assume that because I know how to dress myself, I also understand men's fashion. Let me tell you something: men's fashion baffles me. Men's shoes? Boring. Men's pants? All the same. Men's shorts? Disgusting, they should be outlawed.

Really, the only opinions I have on men's fashion are negative ones, probably because I just don't get it. As a result, I don't usually know how to respond when people ask me about man clothes...so I turn to Eric. Ah, Eric, what a great guy. Eric has a sense of style that seems effortless (although I know better)- he knows what he likes, what works and what doesn't. He puts a lot of thought into his appearance, and because he's such a creative guy, it works. It's sort of like his art.

In short, he just gets it.

As you all know, I spent last weekend in Boston going to interviews and hanging out with friends. What I didn't tell you is that I brought a surprise with me, courtesy of the ninjas at Bonobos, one of Eric's favorite stores.

A few weeks ago, I reached out to Bonobos and told them all about Eric. I told them that he was probably expecting to spend a good part of the weekend taking pictures highlighting my personal style (which he did), but that I thought he should get some recognition too. And guess what? The guys at Bonobos love Eric's style and sent a few awesome pieces for him to try. Eric has previously raved about Bonobos pants, so I knew he'd like whatever they came up with for him.

Eric and I had a lot of fun putting together a look for a fun Saturday outing. After a delicious breakfast, we went back home to grab the Vespa and headed to the the Commons for a photo shoot and some shopping. It was very refreshing to hang out with a guy who actually wanted to shop! Plus, I got to have fun picking out clothes for someone else and didn't end up spending anything on myself. In fact, I barely even looked at any women's clothing.

image from www.flickr.com We had a really fun day. A special thanks to my favorite Bonobos ninjas, Chris and Don, for all their help. Oh, Eric says thank you too. Trust me, he can't stop talking about his grey dogs. I have a feeling they may get their own post on his site, just you wait!

Oh and next time you're looking to update the wardrobe of your boyfriend/husband/dad/gay best friend/little brother, definitely check out Bonobos- they're Eric D. Fields approved ;)

Sunday Confessional: my life in boxes

image from www.flickr.com I save stuff...like, a lot of stuff. I'm not a packrat or a hoarder, but I do like to keep the important things, like  papers I was proud of from high school, photographs of times I want to remember and special birthday cards. I even have a sash created by my best friend that says "sweet sixteen"- I still remember wearing it around school on my birthday and feeling special.

In addition to my regular boxes (the two above with the pearl accents were made by mom- aren't they pretty?), I also have my boy box. Ah...the boy box. The boy box has "artifacts" that date back to high school- the one photo I have with my first boyfriend, driving directions to my first date, angry letters I wrote but never delivered to boys that hurt me in the past. Most recently, I've accumulated notes that went with flowers, goodbye letters, ticket stubs and a cork from a bottle of wine I shared with someone. These memories wouldn't mean much to anyone else, but they mean a lot ot me.

image from www.flickr.com You see, I think you can learn a lot from past relationships- about yourself, about your significant other and about how you want and need to act in the future. You learn about the mistakes you made and how you want to be treated in the future. You also get to remember the good times, something that is often difficult when you look back on a failed relationship. Saving things helps you remember.

I'm not writing this post because I'm sad or because I need to mope about the past. On the contrary, I just wanted to share my boxes with you.

Does anyone else keep a "boy box," or even just a box of memories?

Update: I just went ot look through one of my boxes and found little bugs crawling in it. EWWWW. Maybe I shouldn't have saved that chocolate rose. Throwing the box out now and looking for a new home for its contents. Eww, eww, eww!!

Je t'aime

34364_1361510477690_1229400043_30985334_5513158_nI saw this shirt today at Forever 21 and my heart skipped a beat. I stood there, frozen and sighed. Je t'aime. What a lovely expression. I remember asking Thibault how to say "I love you" in French, and after he said it once, I had to hear it more. So I made him say it over and over again. He'd whisper it in my ear and I'd just smile.

It's safe to say I'm struggling with this breakup, even though I was the one who cut the relationship short. Matters of the heart are always confusing, and I hate not understanding my own feelings. I think that for a while, I'll continue to see things that remind me of Thibault and make me sad. Still, I know that this is temporary- that I'm in a tough transition period and that I will be back to my normal perky self soon.

But right now, all I hear is "Je t'aime, je t'aime, je t'aime..."

Final exam in fashion

DSC_5170 Before Thibault left Baltimore, I asked him to put together a G3B worthy outfit. Determined to use all of the fashion knowledge he'd acquired over the past 5 months, Thibault set out to do what would have been impossible just weeks before (totally kidding).

Here's what he came up with- I will say, he picked most of the pieces himself!DSC_5169I'm sorry for all the awful faces made in these photos- Sophie took them while we were sitting in the back seat of my mom's convertible that was top-down and in motion. It was windy. I made faces. End of story.
DSC_5191 Ughhhh sorry about the face- we took limited photos because I'm awkward about having my picture taken in public places.

Belt: Primark
Skirt: Uniqlo
Shoes: DSW

Student Name: Thibault

Use of color:
Grade: A-
Teacher's comments: Great choice of red! It adds a pop of color to the outfit without being too overwhelming.

Attention to detail:
Grade: A-
Teacher's comments: The student chose both the bow embellished shoes and the bow hair clip, which I think go very nicely together. It's details like these that help pull together an outfit.

Grade: B+
Teacher's comments: Although the student correctly chose both the shoes and hair piece, he neglected to add a belt to this outfit. The belt shown was the model's own addition.

Ability to match:
Grade: B-
Teacher's comments: The model had to choose the skirt for this outfit...

Overall Grade: A-
