The Pop Culture Hoarder, Vol. 2

image from www.google.comYep, it's back, the second installment of Rachel's famous Pop Culture Hoarder series on G3B. Woot!

  1. The Horrifying Post Date Rant Allegedly Sent by an Investment Manager - I'm not quite sure how he expected to wrangle a second date out of this one.
  2. Unleashed - Puppies and expensive things, what more could you want? (Alana's note: and a push to adopt from/support the Humane Society. I like!)
  3. Husband Material, Vol. 4: Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy - I  would 100% marry James McAvoy. This is fantastic.
  4. Study Abroad to Don't List - A second from Thought Catalog, but it's too good. And all true - the best way to have your study abroad experience.
  5. Glitter Teaspoon Set - These glitter teaspoons are on top of my "things I don't need but really want anyway" list.
  6. Make your Day more Adorable with Soccer Playing Penguins - Because no day is complete without penguins playing soccer. Too cute.
  7. How to Speak Minnesotan - Just try talking to any of your Minnesotan friends. This is spot-on. (Alana's note: Rachel is a Minnesotan. Also, this includes some profanity.)
  8. Animals Talking All Caps - Sometimes you just need this.
  9. Word Nail Art -  I really want to try these word nails
  10. Touch of Evil - I don't know why they did this, but it's amazing. 13 villains. (Alana's note: this is really creepy.)

The Pop Culture Hoarder, Vol. I

image from www.refinery29.comHey G3B readers, I've got a fun new series for you, brought to you by my dear friend, Rachel. Rachel and I have gotten into a routine where we share funny links over IM to keep ourselves smiling during the work day. While I find some good ones (have you seen this puppy app?), Rachel always knows what's going on.

Hope you like- this is the first of what I hope will be a recurring Friday series. Thanks again Rachel for your funny links and stellar commentary!

  1. Marcel the Shell with Shoes on, Two - he was so cute the first time, and he's back!
  2. Fashion-Themed Ben & Jerry's Flavors - because we all do want to try Diane von Fudgesickle, don't even lie about it.
  3. Engaged to Prince William? - I've always fancied myself a princess. Take that, Kate.
  4. Ryan Gosling goes Pancake - I'd rather see Ryan Gosling in a pancake than Jesus in a grilled cheese any day.
  5. Hipster Girl Dress Up -paper dolls for the Internet age. Not quite Halloween or Williamsburg, but use your creativity.
  6. Tigger Got Swag - the only thing that would make this better is if all three of them came together for some Soulja Boy at the end.
  7. Only in Ohio - I guess it's better than a burglar who wants to steal the tree?
  8. Sad Etsy Boyfriends - just because.
  9. 63 Reasons Bradley Cooper Definitely isn't the Sexiest Man Alive - 63 of the most convincing reasons I could possibly think of.
  10. The Muppets Pretty Little Liars Promo- What two things do I love that don't mesh at all? Right, The Muppets and Pretty Little Liars. Excellent.

Heat Wave

Who remembers the video above? It always comes to mind when a) it's really hot outside b) someone is talking about the weather in Spanish. It's one of my favorite Sesame St. songs, so I hope you enjoy! Also, I'd like to try frying an egg on the cement...

That's not my Sweater

image from farm6.static.flickr.comLet's be honest- I really wasn't even going to post photos of today's outfit until my stylish coworker, Lauren, told me she liked my sweater. I just had to laugh.

Funny story, this comfy grey cardigan? It's totally not mine. Let me explain. You see, a few months ago (i.e. during the winter), Eric and I made a trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond because he needed a hamper. On that same trip, we purchased a bin that would later become my clothing storage box in his closet. I filled it up with some essentials: underwear, jeans and some sweaters.

Sometimes I'd find full outfits in the box, other times I'd be out of luck. Today I was unlucky: I had 3 pairs of pants, some wool tights and a few non-work appropriate tops. Basically, I had multiple versions of about half an outfit. So, I grabbed this sweater and belt from Eric and tried to make it work.

It's funny, the whole "not being able to find the clothes you want to wear in the morning" phenomenon is not new to me. Growing up with divorced parents, I lived in two houses, which meant I had two rooms and two closets. I was never sure where certain items of clothing would end up. So basically, I'm used to it.

PS- like my new photo spot? It's the alley behind my little fenced in backyard. Today was the first day I've actually used it for photos. It's sort of embarrassing, as everyone in the apartments on both sides can totally see me. We'll see if I'm brave enough to continue taking pictures there!

Blogger in Box: an Outfit Post

image from farm6.static.flickr.comAt Likeable, we don't have interns- we have Buzz Builders. Buzz Builders, affectionately known as "BBs" or "Buzzies", are very involved in what we do and are a major help. Additionally, because we're all around the same age, I'm happy to call the ones I know best some of my newest Boston friends.

Katie, a BB I work closely with, is such a sweetheart.  In addition to being an amazing buzz builder, Katie is also super fun and a pretty awesome photographer. After seeing some of her work, I asked if she wanted to snap a few pics for the blog.

image from farm5.static.flickr.comAs soon as we saw the "box", we joked about how it would make a great spot for a photo shoot. I totally worked it for the camera, striking my silliest modeling poses and making some ridiculous faces- for some reason, those pictures didn't make the cut ;)

image from farm6.static.flickr.comAll in all, I'd say this impromptu photo shoot was 5 minutes well spent. Unfortunately, this awesome photo spot won't be around for much longer, as I'm assuming it has shelves and doors that will make make it too small for posing, even for me!

Thanks for your help, Katie :)

PS- interested in a Buzz Builder position at Likeable? Check out this post for details.

Did you know...

image from farm6.static.flickr.com

  • I got my nose pierced when I was 19 (see above: no, it's not a pimple).
  • I used to eat a grape jelly sandwich practically every day of my childhood, due to allergies.
  • I once fell off a ski lift.
  • I have a minor squirrel phobia, but I'm mostly over it.
  • I HATE the cold, which is probably why I stopped skiing.
  • I'm the messiest eater I know (I literally just spilled coffee on myself and the area around my desk resembles the floor under a toddler's high chair).
  • I hate cooking for myself.
  • I prefer shopping alone.
  • I have a "Jewish Dad" sense of humor- joking around with my parents at the breakfast table is one of my favorite activities...seriously!
  • I once tried rush a sorority and didn't make the cut...I'm still a little bit scarred.
  • I've gotten so used to ending phone calls with "I love you" that I'm often worried I'll accidentally say it to a coworker/acquaintance.

The Polka Dot Slayer

image from farm6.static.flickr.com Here's the thought process that went into today's outfit:

1) Eww, it's going to snow tomorrow. I should wear white because the photos will look really cool.

2) I guess I could wear that really summery WHBM dress that I wore to graduation. It'll be kind of risky, but I'm up for the challenge.

3) I could wear red lipstick and sparkly eye shadow.

5) This could be my "suck it snow!" outfit.

image from farm6.static.flickr.comimage from farm6.static.flickr.comHere's Eric's take on the outfit- I think he was partially inspired by Stylish Year's Stew's-day Doodles.

image from farm6.static.flickr.com I'm not sure why there's blood everywhere, but my old boss says it looks like I'm the polka dot slayer!

Outfit Details: Dress- WHBM; Sweater- Loft; Belt and Necklace- Israel; Boots- Kate Spade partially c/o TJMaxx; Tights-?

Photo Diary: Christmas Elf?

image from farm6.static.flickr.com image from farm6.static.flickr.com image from farm6.static.flickr.comThis past Saturday, Eric wrapped presents to send home to his parents. Fortunately for me, he didn't ask for help. I'm HORRIBLE at wrapping presents. It must not be genetic, because my dad is a pro. Seriously, you should see his work- his corners are impeccable. Mine? Not so much. I guess now that the secret is out, he has a lot more wrapping in his future.

Sesame St. TV Parodies

Eric and I were looking for 30 Rock videos on youtube when we stumbled upon these gems:

Eric has also admitted that a career change might be in order- he wants to be a Muppeteer (Muppet+ Puppeteer, get it?)! When asked what skills would make him an ideal muppet puppeteer, he says his ability to make funny faces and gestures himself would easily carry over to the puppets he'd operate. Hmm, for now I say don't quit your day job, but I'm sure my mom (a preschool music teacher/puppeteer) has some tips for him!

Justin Bieber and I are proud to announce...

image from farm6.static.flickr.com ...that we're in love! Just kidding. Eric took this picture the other day at iParty, where we were picking up supplies for our upcoming holiday party. I'm getting really excited- we've purchased a lot of great stuff, including lights, candles, a  big punch bowl and drink supplies. We're making champagne punch and jello shots in addition to having lots of beer and yummy finger food.

Did I mention that Eric will be projecting "snow" off of his ipad and onto the wall? Talk about authentic holiday cheer. We also bought a neon green tablecloth to put on the wall for green-screen photos. I'm not sure what types of backgrounds I want to make, but I'm thinking at least one of them should feature Justin Bieber.

If you're in Boston this Friday and want to come, let me know- it's going to be a blast!
