Behind the Scenes: Blog Better Boston

Bbbos-0039Lunch at Stephi's (my favorite!) with my dad, Eric and Maggie before setting up on Friday.
Bbbos-0051My dad finally got to meet his "granddog" and took a ton of photos in the park.
Bbbos-0086The fantastic Emerson interns putting together swag bags. The 80+ lbs of tea was definitely the most overwhelming!
Bbbos-0089Stew creating a signature "StewART" bag that was used as an example at the DIY table.
Bbbos-0108The main room at around 7AM with super organized chairs thanks to Eric and his excellent spatial skills.
Bbbos-0125Testing out the step and repeat before the bloggers arrived. There were jumping pictures as well, but they were pretty unflattering.
Bbbos-0299The "green room" with the crew and Kristin from Real Simple- notice how all but one of us is using an Apple device.

Thanks to my dad for these shots. More to come soon!

Designer Crush: Kelly Love

Check out Kelly Love, an awesome designer based in London. She graciously agreed to answer a few questions for us. Check out her responses below, as well as her amazing Pocket Full O’ Posies collection.  I love the feminie fabrics and gorgeous prints. Plus, the model's hair style is really cute- wish I could pull it off!

Screen Shot 2012-03-25 at 8.50.32 PMTell me a little bit more about your collection - what inspired you, who is it designed for, etc?

SS12 Pocket Full O’ Posies was designed for a free spirited customer who loves to wear unique luxurious pieces. The collection was inspired by games played in childhood & nursery rhymes long with the contrast of 1930’s cocktail parties and vintage lingerie.

Screen Shot 2012-03-25 at 8.51.44 PMWhen did you start designing?

I have always loved anything creative; clothing, writing, photography....I studied fashion design at school and university so I feel like I have always been designing in some way. The label was launched in Australia as part of the New Generation show at fashion week but I feel like the first collection where I really started to take things seriously was AW2011.

Screen Shot 2012-03-25 at 8.52.28 PMWhat prompted you to become a designer?

I moved to Osaka when I was 22 and worked for a Fashion Designer. This actually made me realise that I wanted to do design which was something that I had often considered. After 2 years of living in Japan, I moved to Sydney & studied at Raffles Design Institute before starting work in the industry. I loved the idea of taking a simple idea and turning it into something beautiful + the idea of being able to do something you loved for a living has always been high on my priority list!

Screen Shot 2012-03-25 at 8.53.00 PMWho are your favorite designers?

There are so many designers who I love! Charles Anastase is a French designer who does amazing work & TBA (To be Adored) does gorgeous quirky pieces.  Alot of the designers who I admire are Australian - Aurelio Costarella, Akira Isogawa, Lover, Willow, Romance was Born and Gail Sorronda!

Screen Shot 2012-03-25 at 8.57.05 PMWhat's your favourite trend for spring?

I don’t always follow trends so much but it’s been quite good timing that this season has been all about femininity and pastels so the collection has been really on trend. I love the whole ladylike look!

Screen Shot 2012-03-25 at 8.58.28 PMWhat is your favorite piece you've designed so far?

I really love the ‘Wind of the Willows Blouse’ from this collection as it’s so perfectly formed & made of the most luxurious fabrics. The silk is crinkle taffeta from Italy and the French lace collar is so intricate and sweet when you see it up close. Expensive fabrics & trims are my downfall! My all time favourite pieces though is my best friend’s wedding dress. I don’t think this will ever be topped!

The Flashing Dress

image from farm8.staticflickr.com

Bet that title got your attention! I love this green dress, I really do, but the only problem? The top creeps down lower and lower throughout the day and I'm constantly worried that I'll um, expose myself, in public. The solution? Throw a lacy tank under it! Would you believe this tank is one of these? I scored it for $10 (down from almost $200) when I got locked in the Marshall's underwear section during the fire/blackout.

image from farm7.staticflickr.comWhile my dress still managed to slip throughout the day, I didn't have to worry about any uncomfortable "um, your dress is falling off" comments from strangers.

image from farm7.staticflickr.comThis (fabulous!) bag was my grandmother's. I know I mentioned previously that she had amazing taste, and this bag is no exception. I have no idea where or when it's from, but I'm assuming it's real crocodile. Though I probably wouldn't purchase a new croc bag, I'm more than ok with this vintage one.

Thank you to  Sarah for taking these photos. We met for lunch/outfit photos yesterday which was so much fun and a brilliant idea for people who unintentionally ruin self photo shoots.

Outfit Details: Tank- Spanx Haute Contour via Marshall's (similar); Dress- Tart via Marshall's (similar); Sweater- Target; Bag- vintage; Shoes- Havaianas (similar) via Gilt (60% off with Klout perk!); Earrings- c/o Anne Keane; Sunglasses- gift.

Spring in a Blur

Woopsies, so apparently my photos didn't turn out. I was all set to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and find a secluded, comfortable photo spot. It's hard when you live right in the city, when people are around all day and give you funny stares. I thought I was all set, until I realized that a) I somehow forgot to bring the piece that connects my tripod to my camera and b) my battery was super low.

These are the only pictures I had a chance to take. I found a ledge to balance my camera on and was just starting to take some test photos when the battery died.

Guess I'll just have to wear this outfit again. Consider this your "sneak peek"!

My Friday's Fancies: Green, Green, Green!

image from farm8.staticflickr.com

Where to find: Top,BeltSkirtClutch, Necklace, Shoes, Watch.

Though this is going to be my 5th St. Patrick's Day in Boston (aka the St. Patrick's Day capital of the US), I've actually never really celebrated the holiday. As a result, instead of going full-out-crazy St. Patrick's Day green, I decided to go with a bit more of a muted hue. Plus, I just can't get enough of mint, it's gorgeous and needs to make its way into my spring wardrobe.

Check out the rest of the Friday's Fancies posts here!

* Fun fact: my Bat Mitzvah ocurred on St. Patrick's Day in 2001 and no, I didn't wear green.

I Crave: Color

Clockwise from top:
Christopher Kane Platform Heels
Pour la Victoire Taryn
Pierre Hardy Neoprene/Patent Leather Sandals
Ann Taylor Cheri Peeptoe Platform Pumps
KORS Michael Kors Ysabell Sandals

I'm loving the look of neon hues paired alongside neutrals. Maybe it's the contrast, or the fact that neon is so unexpected next to something so otherwise...blah. Either way, I hope this trend is here to stay.

I'm hoping to do some sort of DIY featuring the above color palette. Stay tuned!

A Boho Vibe

image from farm8.staticflickr.com

How fun is this rainbow, seventies-esque top? It was an unexpected score from T.J.Maxx. You know how you go in to buy one thing and end up getting something completely different? That's sort of what happened. Armed with the simple task of buying a pepper mill and ramekins, I somehow left the store with this brightly colored Romeo and Juliet Couture top...and sans-pepper mill and ramekins.

image from farm8.staticflickr.com

This lightweight, flirty top was a steal at just $19.99, and while the T.J.Maxx tag said the original price was $40.00, the actual R&J Couture tag said $155! Part of the thrill of bargain shopping is seeing how much you saved, so I'm not sure why they lowered the ARV on the tag. I'm guessing it was a mistake.

G3B on Gemvara: Roundup

A few weeks ago, I told you I'd be guest blogging for Gemvara for a bit. Well, that "bit" actually turned into three weeks, and I'm continuing this week as well.

Just thought I'd share some of my favorite posts with you over here.

A few favorites on a Friday. Thanks to finally finding the "symbols" section in Illustrator, I'm becoming a master collage maker.

A fun post called I Want (neck) Candy, all about statement necklaces.

This post is part of a color series featuring everyone's favorite spring shade: mint. Not sure about you, but I'm mad about mint!

Inspired by a J.Crew catalogue I found in Eric's room, I created this post about monochromatic color blocking.

My Friday's Fancies: Spring Break

image from farm8.staticflickr.com

I decided it might be fun to participate in my blog friend AV's weekly Friday's Fancies series. This week's theme is spring break, whether you're still in college and have the luxury of an actual spring break, or you're just wishing spring break still existed in the real world.

I went with a bright pink collection, simply because I'm OBSESSED with these Nine West Lookglobal Ankle-Strap Sandals.  I'm so glad ankle-strap heels are coming back. I know, I know, they're not always the most flattering if you have less than perfect legs, but at least they make you reconsider skipping the gym.

Also pictured above: Hot Pink JOSA tulum Largo 85 Cover Up Caftan , Seafolly Goddess Halter Suit , Juicy Coutre North Shore Lynn Tote, Amrita Singh Bangles and Cole Haan Sunglasses.

I don't care what anyone says about their mom's recipe, my mom's hamantashen recipe is actually the best. A little bit cakey, not at all dry and just a tad crunchy when they come out of the oven, her dough beats anything you've ever tried before.

Unfortunately, I can't share the secret family recipe with you (sorry!), because my mom sells hamantashen as part of her Yum! by Becky business. I think the last time we talked, she said she'd sold over 60 dozen. Seriously, those numbers don't lie, this recipe is the BEST.
