Sundress Week: Day 3- Double Trouble

Wow, I have so many great Sundress Week pictures to post from yesterday!

Alanaflowers

I really love this dress. It's from Target and has pockets. Plus, how pretty are these flowers? I got them with my nine year old at Trader Joe's. I believe that you don't need a boyfriend to get a nice bouquet of flowers. And, because it's the last day of class, I decided to reward myself with something bright and colorful.

Sundress Week: Day 3- Goodies from Home

Apr 29, 2009

Some sundress pics from back home. Thanks Donna!

Lauren and Gabby sundress

Here's my little sister Lauren and my cousin Gabby. They put these matching dresses on for Passover. Aren't they pretty?

Sundresssquirrel

My stepmom knows how I feel about squirrels, so she always makes a point of buying me squirrel related things (like my pink pj pants and a book with a squirrel on the cover) and sending me squirrel emails. Yeah, so instead of taking a picture of herself for sundress week, she sent me this.

Sundress Week: Day 2- Creative Clips and Lots of Friends

Hi all! I know this is a little late, but here are some photos from yesterday!

Hairclipsundress

As you all know, I'm very, very petite. Actually, Burlington Coat Factory has a name for people my size (no, it's not midget): demi-petite. Ok, so I'm demi-petite, and more often than not, I have trouble with poorly fitting dress straps. While I typically buy things with adjustable straps, I often have to use safety pins to keep from showing off too much cleavage.  Although safety pins are effective, they're not particularly pretty.

But yesterday, I had a brilliant idea: Why not use a fun hair clip to keep my dress on? This particular clip is etched with tiny flowers and I think it looks really cute with this purple and pink dress from Loehmann's aka my happy place.

Rikandrach

Look how cute! Rach and Riki ran into each other at Hillel and decided to take a photo for you! I love the bright pink of Rachel L's sundress. You can't see, but she's wearing two really pretty bangles- one in teal and one in yellow. I also love Riki's dress. Hmm...look's eerily similar to something I own. Oh wait...

Sundressgroup

I realize we're not all actually wearing sundresses, but look how well we match! How fun is Marla's tie-dye t? I just love it!

ThatShortChick

Finally, check out That Short Chick, another demi-petite girl. She looks awsesome! I'm so glad she emailed me this photo.

Sundress Week: Day 2- Little Sister Edition

Apr 28, 2009

As promised, here's a  Sundress Week photo from one of my faithful readers:

Sophsundress

How pretty is my little sister Sophie? She just had her 18th birthday and is graduating from high school in a little over a month. Also, she'll be in Spain for a good part of May completing an internship and staying with friends. (If only my senior internship had been that fab-tastic! I inputted data into a computer and ate lunch alone for 6 weeks.)  Hopefully she'll send me stories and photos to share with you!

And who is that pretty dog in  pink? Actually, Sababa prefers you use the adjective "handsome" because he is a boy. My sister and I love dressing him up in ribbons, scarves and bandannas, much to the chagrin of my stepdad, who confiscates Sabi's accessories as soon as he sees him.

"He's a boy!" He constantly argues.

So what. Real men wear pink. (Hi Chris!)

Get excited for more pictures of the HANDSOME Mr. Sababa...and my lovely Mom on Thursday.

Don't forget to send me your sundress photos! Send Email

Sundress Week: Day 1- The Little Teal Number

Apr 27, 2009

Hello boys and girls and happy Sundress Week! I hope you're all enjoying the nice weather...although a few of you have told me that it's not actually so warm where you live. Of course, I'm sad that you can't all enjoy the lovely Boston weather for yourselves, but hopefully these photos will cheer you up.

I did a mini photo shoot today during babysitting. My nine year old and I found a nice spot near the playground and took turns snapping photos of each other. We brought the dog. He's not really that into being photographed...he moves a lot.

My wonderful roommate is responsible for choosing today's "sundress," which is a little number I picked up last year at Target. I use quotation marks because it's actually a beach cover-up. I'm a believer that cover-ups, as well as pajamas and sometimes even lingerie (unless highly see-through and scandalous), can be worn as regular clothing.

I climbed a tree...in flip flops!

BU beach and sundress week!

Apr 25, 2009

Tulip

Hooray for spring! Today was so warm (86 degrees) that practically everyone at BU could be seen outside on the "beach." No, BU doesn't actually have a beach, and technically, because we're a city school, we don't even really have much of a campus. Because of that, people crowd onto the grassy area near the river-- aka the Bu Beach--whenever it's nice out.

After meeting with some kids in my class to discuss a group project, I met Rachel and Stephanie on the beach. Boys tossed frisbees while girls, clad in bikinis or little dresses, sunned themselves. Two relatively attractive guys played guitar, and the hockey team sat in a row, their muscular chests practically gleaming in the sun. Rach and I may or may not have taken some stalkery photos... What a perfect day!

BU Beach

All of this warm weather has got me thinking- I want to make next week sundress week! I definitely have at least 7 sundresses hanging in my closet, and I want to wear them: ALL of them. So starting Monday, I will only wear dresses...for a week. I can't wait to share my favorites with you, a la Maegan's "Completely Gratuitous Outfit" posts. (Don't worry, I will most definitely save my pink dress for Thursday!)

So, who's up for sundress week? I know I'm trying to get some of my gal pals over at BU to participate. Send me photos...or participate on your own blog. I'm excited just thinking about pairing my favorite dresses with cute shoes and accessories!

Guest Post: Elle Bee talks PR

Apr 24, 2009

Hello, readers at the Good Girl Gone Blog! I'm Elle, from the [Mis]Adventures of Elle Bee. Alana and I signed up for this Blog Swap back in the day, and since we make our own rules, we agreed to trade spaces today rather than on Wednesday like we were supposed to. We're rebels like that.

It's been fun, and fairly interesting, trying to come up with a blog topic. You get to know a bit about people you wouldn't have met otherwise, and build connections you didn't know you had. For example, Alana's American and I hail from the Great White North. From living in very different countries, you'd think that we lack things in common. From her post over on my blog, you can learn about Alana's love for her Easy Bake Oven. Me, I never had one (I know, I suffered as a child). However, I do love to bake little cakes (cupcakes, even) in my real kitchen. I also learned that Alana and I share a career choice. Public Relations.
For those of you who aren't interested in Public Relations, I apologize. I'm totally going there. I'm giving you a case study of something that Alberta (my province) did horribly wrong. We branded ourselves. With a tagline that I can never remember. We went from "Alberta Advantage" to "Freedom to Create. Spirit to Achieve." (I had to look it up).

The problem isn't with the branding itself. Other Canadian provinces have done it. Cities do it all the time. Both Canada and the United States have created an "image" for themselves. The problem starts when Public Relations people (and the consultants they've paid $25 million to come up with the brand) stop practicing what they preach.

Three good ideas when you're creating a brand that Alberta forgot:

1) Base your brand on something that means something to people. All of the ad copy (and even the tagline) for this Alberta brand is so lame. Seriously. It's all fluffy, airy, feel-good verbage that doesn't mean anything to anyone. I've seen this ad written down, and it's nearly impossible to read through. The video is a bit better, but I can't help but roll my eyes when it starts to play.

2) Don't discriminate. Canada's pretty multicultural in general, and Alberta also shares a lot of that multiculturalism. Sure, in the movies Albertans tend to be portrayed as rugged cowboys or slick oil executives, but in real life we have many different cultures living side-by-side, day-by-day. In all of the ad imagery, there's approximately one Aboriginal and one girl with dark hair and olive skin who may, possibly but it's a stretch, be Muslim. Everyone else is blonde and blue-eyed. As a very freckled, red-headed girl, this realization makes my green eyes even greener with jealousy. Seriously? I don't fit into the pretty little package of what Alberta should appear to be?

3) Make sure there's no confusion over what you're selling. It came out today, on the front page of the newspapers in Alberta's biggest cities, that there's a reason why blue-eyed blonde children were gallavanting through Alberta's images. Because the people in the Alberta ads? They might not even be Albertan.

These English tots are whooping it up on a famous English beach near Bamburg Castle, the legendary home of Sir Lancelot. Uh oh. Alberta was found out when a reader contacted the paper after contacting the Government inquiring about where the beach was. They do not have beaches in Alberta like this, believe you me. The Government tried to cover up their faux pas, saying it represents the future of Alberta and our "worldly interests", but no one is buying it. Let that be a lesson to you, PR people! (Also, come to Alberta and visit, because we are pretty awesome even though we're not England.)

My pink skillet

Apr 23, 2009

Happy Pink Thursday everyone! I thought I'd show you this great new skillet I bought for my future apartment. Technically, I didn't buy it on Pink Thursday- I actually got it this weekend, but I waited until today to show it to you. Trust me, it's been hard.

How cute is this skillet?
Now the only question is- should I christen it with pancakes or stir fry?
